WARREN B. COOPER
“Just Take 5”
WARREN B. COPPER is a nouveau-spirit inspirational singer, songwriter, and producer whose work draws from the liturgical tradition
and the improvisational freeform of Jazz. His meditative style represents a “gumbo’ of musical influences that embody themes of peace. Cooper’s newest album, “The Permanently Peaceful Project” offers a musical practicum for peaceful practice and presents musical framings of specific things one can do to lower their emotional temperature and reduce the threat of violence. The lead single on the project is Take 5….Stop The Violence! Cooper’s vocals and original lyrics are a reframing of the Dave Brubeck/Paul Desmond Jazz composition, Take 5.
The son of a Presbyterian minister, Cooper grew up with concepts of gospel music as an instrument of healing and reconciliation. His worldwide view was shaped by the dual reality of growing up Black in the shadow of Philadelphia’s 1964 race riots and the influence of his father’s commitment to reaching across cultures and sectors to build bridges. It was his father’s dedication to restoring a spirit of compassion and peace (in the community and around the world) that has had the most impact on the themes he explores in his art. His musical influencers include a diverse mixture of artists including the legendary songwriters Gamble & Huff and artists of Philadelphia International Records (PIR) Miles Davis, Johnny Hartman, Walter Hawkings,
Maurice White, James Taylor, Gil Scott Heron and Oscar Brown, Jr. The Permanently Peaceful Project is a contemporary blend of jazz,
neo-soul and spoken word artistry. It is scheduled for release, September 2024.
