Description
Buka Papua New Guinea Coffee
Papua New Guinea coffees are celebrated for their intricate acidity and wide variety, thanks to the country’s rich cultural and topographical diversity. From the rugged highlands to coastal hubs like Buka Papua New Guinea, the nation’s unique geography shapes its incredible coffee heritage. Most coffee here is grown on small plots rather than large plantations, and processing methods are continually refined to achieve optimal quality year after year.
This particular Arakara AA comes from the Arokara Cooperative in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Recently, the plantations were returned to their original owners, who are deeply committed to chemical-free production.
The coffee cherries are hand-picked by local clan members, immediately pulped, and fermented in cement vats for three days. Next, the coffee is washed with pure water from the Aru River and sun-dried for seven to twelve days. The plantations employ up to 60 assistants to aid the cherry pickers, supporting nearly 12,000 people who rely on this traditional process for their livelihoods.
